Google rolls out Major Algorithm Change to improve Search Engine

Google today has announced a major algorithm change to improve their search engine quality. Google search users have been complaining about poor results, content farm, and irrelevant sites ranking high in search results pages.

Now, Google team has taken this issue very seriously and has started taking strict actions against the websites and blogs that are trying to manipulate Google results with black-hat and grey-hat SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tricks. Today’s algorithm change will ensure huge improvements in search engine rankings and will affect most of the sites that produce low-value, copy-paste content to rank high up in Google rankings.
Amit Singhal, Google Fellow, and Matt Cutts, Principal Engineer said -
Many of the changes we make are so subtle that very few people notice them. But in the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking—a change that noticeably impacts 11.8% of our queries—and we wanted to let people know what’s going on. This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.
We can’t make a major improvement without affecting rankings for many sites. It has to be that some sites will go up and some will go down. Google depends on the high-quality content created by wonderful websites around the world, and we do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem. Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that’s exactly what this change does.
As you can see the highlighted words in the above paragraphs, Google is not willing to compromise their search quality to make someone happy. The big improvement in search algorithm is being tested in the U.S. and will slowly roll out to all over the world.
To make the search engine more useful, Google has recently launched a Google Chrome extension through which end users can block a particular website from search pages. Google team is also working on social search, which will display relevant information from different social services. These changes will automatically affect the businesses running on Google’s search engine.
In the end, Google can’t please everyone with their changes. Someone will win and others will lose the game. If you want to be on top of the competition, you’ll have to generate high quality and unique content on your websites. That’s the only solution to get success in SERPs!
As a frequent Google user, I personally believe that this algorithm change will definitely help in a better way. What’s your opinion on it?
